Diplomacy is a war game in which you attempt to lead your country to dominate the map of Europe. The game is designed for 7 players, each of whom is assigned a different major power of World War 1 era Europe. It is possible to play with less than 7 players, but the games works best if you can get 7 players. In the game, each country starts out with more or less equal military forces, and you can only defeat other players in combat by out-numbering them in conflicts, which thus normally requires cooperation between players. Additionally, moves are made by writing down orders to your units, and each player's orders are revealed simultaneously, thus introducing the possibility of back-stabbing other players. The attraction of Diplomacy as compared to other war games, is that the game's progress is basically determined by interpersonal and negotiating skills, rather than military tactics. Diplomacy is known to have been John F. Kennedy's favorite game, and according to legend, is also the favorite game of Henry Kissinger. Please select from: ![]() |
