Risk is an abstract war game for two to six players. The basic idea is to conquer a world map divided into 42 territories. Combat is determined by dice rolling, but as the dice is rolled many times, this tends to average out, and the game is usually determined by skill at strategy, tactics, and in multi-player games negotiating alliances with other players. Many variants of the basic Risk idea have been produced over the years, such as Risk 2210 A.D. (a futuristic version), a Star Wars version (based on the movies), a Lord of the Rings version, etc. The exact details (map, rules, number of players) of these variants differ, but they all tend to follow more or less the same basic theme.
