Stratego is an abstract strategy board game for two players, loosely based on the traditional Chinese board game, Dou Shou Qi (Game of the Fighting Animals). Stratego is played on a 10X10 square board (although two 2X2 areas in the middle of the board are impassable), and each player has 40 pieces which they can initially set up how they want in their own home areas. Different types of pieces have different capabilities, and thus an important aspect of the game is using your pieces in the most effective manner possible. The object of the game is to either capture your opponent's flag piece, or to capture so many of your opponent's pieces that they can not move at all. Perhaps the most interesting and unusual aspect of Stratego is that while each player can see where their opponent's pieces are located on the board, they can not tell which of their opponent's pieces is which. Stratego is thus a game of incomplete information. Consequently, both second-guessing your opponent's strategies, and trying to mislead your opponent (for example, about the location of your flag piece), are important aspects of the game.
