Dungeons and Dragons is a fantasy role-playing game, and in fact the best-known and best-selling role-playing game with an estimated 20 million players worldwide. In the game, one of the players takes the role of Dungeon Master, and he acts as story-teller and referee. The other players each have their own character (who can be a wizard, fighter, thief, etc.) and adventure in a magical fantasy world, battle fictional monsters, collect treasure, etc. Dungeons and Dragons is primarily played with pencil and paper, as well as a variety of different special dice, however minature figures and other accessories can optionally be used. Due to the tremendous popularity of the game, there have been many spin-off products, including magazines, novels, comics, cartoons and films, as well as many software titles and board games based on Dungeons and Dragons.
